The solution I offer is a temporary shade option using a patio solar shade. I manufacture and install my own line of patio shades. I do all of my manufacturing right here in Austin, Texas. I openly publish my installed patio shade pricing here.

My patio shades will keep your outdoor area cool by blocking the sun.

My shades are designed for temporary sun protection.

The outdoor roller shades that JoshHobbs.com manufactures can be easily rolled down when you’re on the patio and should be rolled back up once you’re done. They are not intended to be left down without your presence, as strong winds can be very destructive.

These shades only dropped to the handrail but still provide an immense amount of sun shade.

My outdoor shades offer 97% sun protection, filtering out 97% of the sun's rays.

While it's important to provide shade for the patio, maintaining airflow is also essential. Therefore, it's crucial to install the sunshade in a way that allows air to circulate freely throughout the patio.

Patio solar shades must be mounted on a level horizontal surface to ensure they can drop down evenly.

You have the option to lower each sun shade individually or all of them at once. When you lower all the patio sun shades, you effectively create a shaded room on your patio.

How about using exterior retractable patio sun shades for the inside of a closed-in patio? Is that a good solution?

Using outdoor patio shades for a closed in patio. The are black 97% sun control patio shades installed for this Central Austin home. She has this beautiful closed-in patio but needed shade for it.

This Central Austin homeowner features a beautifully enclosed patio. However, during the summer, the sun would flood the space. We installed our outdoor solar shades to cover these two openings, providing 97% shade to the seating area. The patio is already enclosed with bug screen fabric, making it a closed-in patio. For anyone with a similar setup, I highly recommend retractable sun shades for temporary shade as needed. Some closed-in patios use solar screen fabric, which is fine, but dense 90% solar screen fabric can be vulnerable to wind damage. I prefer the combination of bug screen fabric and optional roll-up patio blinds for flexibility.

Is a patio sun shade the same as a porch roller shade?

There are many definitions for patio shades that mean the same thing. Yes, patio roller shades, porch roller shades, retractable sun shades, and outdoor solar shades all mean exterior roll up shading devices to raise and lower to provide sun shade for the pergola, gazebo, porch, pavilion, and patio.
